Professor Kamil Idris is the President of the WASD as well as the former Director General of the WIPO, World Intellectual Property Organization.
WASD, World Association for Sustainable development, works as a network that mediates the exchange of ideas and knowledge between different parties across the world. These parties can consist of scholars, professionals, industry representatives, students, or anyone who wishes to contribute towards making sustainable development possible.
Born and raised in Sudan, Professor Kamil Idris worked as a diplomat and international civil worker, and he is also an author of several books. Idris achieved his higher education from the University of Khartoum- Faculty of La. After that, Professor Kamil Idris continued to the Geneva Universty in Switzerland and obtained his Ph.D. in International Law. Professor Kamil Idris has also acquired several honorary doctorate degrees in Law from academic institutions around the globe.
In 1982, Professor Kamil Idris started working at the World Intellectual Property Organization as a member of their International Law Commision until 1996 and then again from 2000 until 2001. In 1997, Professor Kamil Idris was appointed as the Director General of the organization and remained at the post for six years. At his position, Professor Kamil Idris was responsible for overseeing the efforts of the World Intellectual Property Organization in the field of global protection of intellectual property. In 2003, Professor Kamil Idris was appointed at the position once again for another term which was supposed to end in 2009.
Over the course of his career, Professor Kamil Idris has served at other organizations as well. He worked at the UPOV, Union for the Protection of New Varieties of Plants, and was also a member of the International Law Commission of the United Nations.
